Notes Before you start:
- This step can, and is often, left to the end of the build. If so the front Y feet just need to be removed to slip the wasteboard into place. The wasteboard cannot be inserted from the side, there is not enough clearance below the gantry V-wheels
- The waste board overall dimensions are less than the machine footprint. If your going to have a board cut down for you use these dimensions:
- 1000 mm2 Machine: 1000x940mm in approx an 18mm MDF sheet.
- 700 mm2 Machine: 700 x 640 in approx an 18mm MDF sheet.
- 500 mm2 Machine: 500 x 440mm in approx an 18mm MDF sheet.
- There are 144 Waste board inserts that can be inserted from the underside of the waste board after drilling the 144 holes in a grid. The exact location is not important so accurate measurements are not necessary. Generally the inserts are not so useful and can cause molehills after several uses so most users skip this step and simply screw stock directly to the waste board instead of trying to use the clamping method.
- There are 20 counterbored holes around the edge of the board. These holes should be 10mm exactly from the edge of your waste board however the space between them is not important.
- There are also 3 holes in a line through the centre of the board, these should be accurately down the centre line of the waste board.
- If your a little off with any of the holes you should be able to reconfigure the 2020 underneath the waste board to accommodate
- The Waste board adds considerable rigidity to the machine, and is able to hold the machine square, so you can measure diagonally across the machine and flex the entire base a little while tightening the waste board down to help square up the machine. Some users screw a second layer of board to the first to be the sacrificial board, meaning that the sacrificial board can be replaced without having to remove the bottom board and loose the square of the machine.
- You may need to loosen up the 2020 frame pieces, and Y feet at the front and back of the machine in order to fit the wasteboard in and square everythingup.
- The waste board does not slide in from the sides of the machine
